A 22-year-old woman constable, Prabha Bharti, was shot dead under suspicious circumstances on 8 February in the Katihar district of Bihar.
Her family members have alleged one Mohammad Hasan alias Chhote for the murder saying he was mad at her for breaking up with him.
The police teams are investigating the case and the motive behind the murder.
As per a report by Hindi daily Dainik Jagran, Prabha was posted at Chief Minister’s ‘Samadhan Yatra’. She sustained two bullet shots in her head.
Mohammad Chhote was blackmailing Prabha
As per preliminary investigation, Prabha was having an affair with the suspect, Hasan. Almost a year ago, she broke up with him but he was stalking her. He even threatened her saying he would make all their private pictures public if she did not adhere to his demands.
A report by Dainik Bhaskar says that Hasan hid his identity before getting into a relationship and it was only after his true identity was revealed that she broke up with him. He was giving her death threats for not marrying him.
Seven named accused in the FIR
Prabha’s elder sister Pratima told the media that they had filed a police complaint against seven people including Hasan. Of all the named accused, the police have detained one Mohammad Qadir for interrogation so far.
Pratima also said that Prabha informed the police about Hasan but they never took it seriously.
The named accused in the FIR are (1) Mohammad Hasan Arshad alias Chhote (2) Mohammad Qadir, (3) Sonu, (4) Danish, (5) Sajjad, (6) Digga Yadav and (7) Priyansh.

Prabha is a resident of Das Toli village located in Faridpur area of Jamalpur. She was inducted into the Bihar Military Police (BMP) on 5 May 2021. Her father Manoj Kumar Das is the principal of a government school.
She wanted to become a professor and contribute to society by teaching students, like her father.
What happened on the fateful night of 8 February?
As per a report by Dainik Jagran, the Chief Minister of the state was to visit Lakhisarai following Munger. Prabha was deployed in the yatra with the security teams at Suryagarh.
Prabha returned home after completing her shift on 7 February to Faridpur (her home). After spending the night at home she boarded a passenger train from Jamalpur railway station to Bhagalpur at around 2 in the afternoon. She later boarded a bus from Bhagalpur to Katihar.
Her brother Sourav dropped her at the Jamalpur railway station. He did not know this was the last time he was seeing his younger sister.
After taking the bus from Bhagalpur, she informed her parents that she is safe. Around 8 at night, Bihar police informed the family about the recovery of her dead body.
What the police told the media
The Superintendent of Police Katihar, Jitendra Kumar, told the media that the motive behind her death or alleged murder is yet to be identified. He said the accused has fired two bullets near the neck of Prabha. The locals told the media that they heard bullet shots.
The police about the murder spot said they found Prabha’s dead body soaked in blood. The police also collected bullet shells from the spot. If Prabha boarded a bus from Jamalpur or not is still not clear to the police.
A resident of Hasan’s village Morsanda told the media that he used to live in Delhi for studies. After that, he lived at home and it is then he came closer to Prabha.
The alleged murder took place in the Kodha police station area. The police station in-charge Ranjan Singh told the media that any comments on the case can be made only after the investigations.
