The family of a Hindu woman who has allegedly been abducted by a Muslim man from their locality is in distress. They say the accused is already married and will get their daughter converted to Islam. They also fear Shraddha Walkar-like fate for her. It’s been more than a week since she went missing, but the woman is yet to be recovered by the police.
The case
Rashtra Jyoti contacted the parents of the woman, and accessed an official police document in the case.
As per the General Diary of the police (number—0052A), a missing person report was filed by the father of the victim Ramesh Tiwari. They live in the NS Mandi area of New Delhi.
Tiwari’s statement in the GD says his daughter Kavita (name changed), who is 20 years old, left home on 16 December 2022 at around 9 in the morning. She did not return home.
The father also gave a complaint letter to the police. It says they suspect Sonu Khan, a resident of the Jahangirpuri area, for the abduction. Sonu khan made a phone call to Tiwari’s number around 3 am on 17 December, the letter says.
The letter further says that they fear that Sonu, who is a married man, will kill their daughter.
What the family told Rashtra Jyoti
This reporter called up the missing woman’s father on 20 December. He said that the last location of his daughter was tracked somewhere in Rajasthan. It is not very clear as they are constantly moving, the police told him.
Asked why there is no mention of Sonu Khan in the GD entry by the police, Tiwari said that the police told him that this is how a report is filed. Although there is mention of the name of the suspect in the complaint letter, they cannot add it in the GD, the police told him.
Asked about Sonu Khan, he said that he lives next to their lane in the same colony. He is a “pheri wallah’ (street vendor) and is already married. He keeps his wife in a burqa, he said.
Tiwari owns a small construction business. He said his wife has been a patient of depression for the past few years.
He said, “I fear that Sonu will chop my daughter like Shraddha was.”
Kavita’s maternal Uncle, Narendra Dixit, told Rashtra Jyoti that they never knew Kavita was in touch with Sonu even though Sonu would often visit their house.
Kavita did not even have a mobile number. She had a phone but that was without SIM card. She completed her class 12 last year.
He said that after she went missing, the family checked her mobile phone and found that she would chat with Sonu on Instagram. The police then seized the phone.
When asked if they would have allowed their daughter to marry a Muslim man if he was in a better profession, he said, “No one in the family will allow this alliance. We are Hindus, how can our daughter marry a Muslim? Do something to bring her back, we will always remain indebted to you.”
Throughout the conversation, the woman’s father and uncle kept mentioning the ‘Shraddha Walker’ case, where Shraddha, who eloped with a man named Aaftab Ameen Poonawala to marry him, was killed by him within a month of their elopement. Aaftab chopped Shraddha’s body into 35 pieces, stored them in the refrigerator and gradually disposed those all by throwing the pieces in the jungle.
Rashtra Jyoti called up the police station to get an update about the case, but as soon as they found out that the call was from a reporter, they hung up the call.
