‘Abdul Khalid Posed As Munna Yadav To Lure Me In Relationship, Now Threatening Me’. Man Arrested Over Married Dalit Woman’s Complaint

A Hindu woman from a scheduled caste gave a complaint to the Raebareli police in Uttar Pradesh on 4 February against one Abdul Khalid. She said that Khalid posed as a Hindu named Munna Yadav to lure her into a relationship with him.

When she found out the truth, she left him and married another man. Angered, Khalid not only raped her but also started forcing her to convert to Islam.

After her complaint, the Raebareli police arrested Khalid under charges of fraud and the SC-ST Act.

The FIR

A First Information Report (number—56/2023) was registered at Salon police station of Raebareli district on 4 February.

The victim, Neelam, in her complaint told this to the police:

She is a resident of Manipur Bhatehari village of the district and currrently married to Sher Bahadur, a resident of Fatha Rasoolpur (both these villages are almost 100 kilometers away from each other).

The accused Munna alias Abdul lives in Bada Ghosiyana village. He became friends with the victim before her marriage. He used to supply milk to her house. But after some days, he took her to his house where she found that he was Muslim.

She also found that Munna is also involved in illegal businesses. The victim decided to part ways with him.

When she stopped talking to him, he passed casteist slurs and started forcing her to convert. When the victim’s family arranged her wedding with a Hindu man, he reached her in-laws’ house and started threatening them.

After her marriage, he barged into her in-laws’ house and raped her. The victim sought help from the police.

The Police

Rashtra Jyoti called up the Station House Officer of Salon, Brijesh Rai, on 7 February. He said that the accused Abdul was arrested by the police on 5 February.

He said that the victim will go for a detailed medical test tomorrow and then she will record her statement in front of the magistrate under section 164 of the CrPC.

The Victim

The Victim told Rashtra Jyoti that she met Munna Yadav at her home as he was the local milk supplier. Mostly the milk suppliers in this area have ‘Yadav’ surnames. They became friends and then Munna proposed to her. She started meeting him outside her house as well.

As soon as her family members learned about the relationship they fixed her marriage with a man from their community. Her full name is Neelam Saroj and she belongs to the Scheduled Caste (SC) category.

Meanwhile, Neelam found that Munna was Muslim and he had faked his identity. She decided to leave him but after that, he started blackmailing her and forcing her to convert to Islam and marry him. He would say she should do that or else he would kill her parents and her fiancé.

Abdul Khalid who posed as Munna Yadav

When she ignored his threats and got married to Sher Bahadur. But he started following her and even threatened her husband.

Sher Bahadur works as a labourer in Delhi and hence mostly remains out from the village. One day Munna barged into Neelam’s room and raped her at gunpoint. He put his fingers inside her private part. She screamed and prayed for mercy but he kept on doing it.

While doing this he said, she will have to convert to Islam and marry him, or else he will kill her husband and in-laws. Scared, Neelam gave a police complaint the next morning.
