A 16-year-old Hindu boy identified as Sambhu Koiri was stabbed to death in Assam. His death has led to a law and order situation in the city as he was a volunteer of the Hindu group Bajrang Dal. The protestors demanded stringent action to be taken against the attackers.
So far the Assam police have nabbed one accused in relation to the murder, and further investigation is underway. Reports have identified him as Animal Haque from the Muslim community.
As per a report by Indian Express, Sambhu, a resident of Lowairpowa village in the Patharkandi area of Karimganj, was killed in the Lowairpua area (50 kilometers away from where he lived) which falls under Bazaricherra Police Station on Saturday evening, police said.
He was returning from a three-day training camp organized by Bajrang Dal in Hailakandi district.
The incident took place on 8 January, around 8 at night.
A report by The Hindu quoted the senior police officer as saying, “The person was attacked with sharp weapons. Local people immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead”.
The officer added that massive protests were staged in the city following the attack. Several volunteers of Bajrang Dal gheraoed the police station demanding arrests of the culprits.
Extra forces were deployed in the city citing the seriousness of the matter.
A report quoted an eyewitness as saying that the attacker caught Sambhu from the back and stabbed him multiple times on his head, neck area and face.
The news of the attack on a Bajrang Dal volunteer spread like wildfire and soon people started demanding justice for him.

As per locals, Sambhu and the accused had past enmity. Once a scuffle broke out between the two of them at a cricket match.
Shambhu was studying in class tenth.
